The vibrating manipulations can be divided into two kinds, palm vibrating and finger vibrating according to the manipulator's touching parts. But, their postures, manipulating manners are very similar to each other. The manipulator abducts his shoulder about 30 degrees and flexes his elbow about 140 degrees.
1. Finger Vibrating
The manipulator flexes the wrist, extends the fingers naturally and puts the tips of the index and middle finger gently on a certain point of the patients body (Fig 112).
2. Palm Vibrating
The manipulator extends the wrist slightly, straightens the fingers naturallv and puts the palm on one part of the patient’s body surface gently (Fig 113).
Then the manipulator can produce high frequency vibration by two different kinds of movement. One is the convulsive manner, during which the muscles of the forearm and hand are kept in a intense static contraction to bring about vibration with a frequency at 600 to 800 times per minute. This manner is easy to learn, but the manipulator will be tired very soon for the contraction affects the blood circulation of the muscles. The other is alternated contraction manner, in which the flexor and extensor of the forearm are made to rapidly contract aIternately to cause fine vibration with a frequency at about 300 to 400 times per minute, but not produce obvious movement of hand. The latter manner is difficult to master, but the manipulator will not get tired so soon for the muscles contract and relax alternately and thus the blood circulation is not obviously affected. The manipulator should keep a natural breathing style and avoid holding breath so as to protect his health for vibrating consumes a lot of energy. The manipulator may also concentrate his thoughts on the patient’s part acted during the vibrating manipulation, thus it becomes the so-called "Moving Qi Tuina".Vibrating can engender a kind of warm and comfortable sensation on the local tissues, so it is usually applied as a supplementary manipulation to treat distension and pain in the epigastric and abdominal regions, indigestion and descending Qi in the Middle Energizer. It has such functions as invigorating the spleen, removing stagnant food, and regulating the gastrointestinal peristalsis, etc.Click to read Chinese medicine Treatment for Chronic Pancreatitis.
