Acupuncture Point Jiexi (ST41)
Location:
Supine or upright sitting position; directly above the 2nd toe, on the transverse stria ahead of the ankle joint, between two tendons ( m. extensor digitorum longus and m. extensor hallucis longus).
Function:
Clearing away stomach-fire and resolving phlegm.
Regional Anatomy:
Skin-subcutaneous tissue-between tendons of long extensor muscle of great toe and long extensor muscle of toes-talus.
In the superficial layer, there are the medial dorsal cutaneous nerves and the subcutaneoue veins. In the deep layer, there are the deep peroneal nerve and the anterior tibial artery and vein.
Indications:
Pain of the ankle joint, muscular atrophy, motor impairment, pain and paralysis of the lower extremities, Epilepsy, Headache, dizziness and vertigo, abdominal distension, and Constipation.
Prescription:
Combined use with ShenshuBL23 (Shenshu (BL23)) and ZusanliST36 (Zusanli (ST36) He-Sea Point) for treatment of nephritis; and with FengchiGB20 (Fengchi (GB20)) and BaihuiGV20 (Baihui (GV20)) for treatment of headache; and with XuehaiSP10 (Xuehai (SP10)) and ShangqiuSP5 (Shangqiu (SP5) Jing-Well Point) for treatment of meteorism.
Methods:
Insert the needle perpendicularly 0.3-0.5 cun deep; needling response: local sensation of distension; moxibustion: using 3-5 moxa-cones, mild moxibustion for 10 min.
Note:
To avoid injuring the dorsal artery of foot, shallow puncture is indicated.
