(1) Puncturing Renying (ST 9)

Point: Renying (ST 9).

Technique: Keep the patient in a supine position with the head lowered. The practitioner seizes the patient by the throat, but it is not advisable to use this method if the patient feels any dizziness. In application, touch the artery on the point Renying (ST 9) with the left hand to fix the artery, puncturing a l.5-cun needle into the artery wall    with the right hand. It is not allowed to puncture the point very deeply, as this may cause hematoma. It is enough to see the trembling of the needle handle, and then gently press deeper without manipulation. Normally, the needle should be removed after 10 seconds, and on no account must it remain more than two minutes.

Point: Zhiou Point [0.5 cun distal to Daling (PC7) on the palm].

Technique: Insert a needle, 1 or 1.5 cun long, into the point forming an angle of 150 to 300 toward the tip of the middle finger, manipulating the needle with large amplitude to cause strong stimulation. The needle can be retained for about 10 minutes, but the needle may not be retained for children. One side can be punctured for mild cases, and both sides for severe cases. A total of 26 cases were observed, and all were effectively treated. Usually, one treatment is enough.

Point: Neiguan (PC6)

After sterilizing both sides of the points Neiguan (PC6) with routine asepsis, insert the needle rapidly 0.8 to 1 cun deep. After the arrival of qi, manipulate the needle on both sides of the points by the lifting and thrusting technique for 10 to 15 minutes. Meanwhile, ask the patient to breathe in and out deeply two to three times, and lift and thrust the needle once after 5, 10 and 15 minutes respectively. Retain the needle for 30 minutes.
