Our TCM clinical practice has showed that integration of Chinese medicine and western medicine is a very good choice for this disease. According to the theory of traditional Chinese medicine, there are some patterns of syndrome that lead to viral myocarditis.
1. Toxic-heat Disturbing the Heart
2. Collapse of Yang and Depletion of qi
3. Deficiency of Both Qi and Yin
4. Interior Stagnation of Phlegm and Dampness
5. Blockage of Heart Vessel by Blood Stasis
6. Deficiency of Both Yin and Yang
According to the clinical manifestations, viral myocarditis in TCM belongs to the categories of "shi re du" (epidemic dampness heat), "shi xing du" (seasonal contagious toxin), "wen du" (epidemic heat syndrome), "xin ji" (palpitation) and "zheng chong" (severe palpitation), etc. in TCM. Its pathogenic factors are exogenous pathogenic toxic heat, improper diet, overstrain, and congenital insufficiency. Its main pathogenesis is healthy qi deficiency causing invasion of pathogenic factors to the lung, intestines and heart, followed by qi and yin deficiency of the heart, blockage of blood stasis in blood vessels, interior retention of fluid, and collapse of heart yang ultimately.
