1. Toxic-heat Disturbing the Heart
Symptoms: Fever, general aching, nasal obstruction and discharge, itching and sore throat, cough

with sputum, abdominal pain, diarrhea, discomfort of muscles and limbs, palpitation, feeling of oppression in the chest, shortness of breath, red tongue with thin yellow or greasy coating, thready and rapid or slow-irregular and intermittent pulse.

2. Collapse of Yang and Depletion of qi
Symptoms: Acute onset, shortness of breath and palpitation with difficulty in lying on the back, purple lips, irritability, spontaneous sweating, extremely cold limbs, pale or grayish tongue with thin coating, indistinct, thready and intermittent or thready and extremely faint pulse.

3. Deficiency of Both Qi and Yin
Symptoms:Palpitation, shortness of breath, felling of oppression in the chest and spontaneous sweating which are aggravated by exertion, lassitude, insomnia, dreamfulness, dry mouth and tongue, discomfort of throat, red tongue with little fluid, and thready and rapid or slow-irregular or intermittent pulse.

4. Interior Stagnation of Phlegm and Dampness
Symptoms: Chest pain and oppression, shortness of breath, palpitation, dizziness, abdominal fullness, poor appetite, pale and swollen tongue with pale and greasy coating, and soft-superficial and smooth or slow-irregular and intermittent pulse.

5. Blockage of Heart Vessel by Blood Stasis
Symptoms: Localized chest pain sometimes with stabbing sensation, palpitation, purple lips, shortness of breath, dark tongue with occasional ecchymosis and petechiae, thready, unsmooth and slow-irregular or intermittent pulse.

6. Deficiency of Both Yin and Yang
Symptoms: Palpitation, shortness of breath, lassitude, pale complexion, cold limbs, loose stool, soreness of lower back, pale tongue with thin and white coating, and deep and thready or slow-irregular and intermittent pulse.
