The cholecystitis signs and symptoms are similar to those seen in a gallstones attack. One may experience the cholecystitis symptoms after eating a large, fatty meal. The cholecystitis signs and symptoms during an attack include a severe, steady pain in the upper right abdomen. The pain worsens with deep breathing and may extend to the lower right shoulder blade. The pain becomes agonizingly unbearable and the patient may suffer from nausea and vomiting. 1. Stagnation of Liver Qi and Gallbladder Qi
Symptoms: Distension, fullness and pain in the right hypochondrium radiating to the right shoulder or aggravated by anger, chest oppression, frequent sighing and belching, acid regurgitation, eructation with foul odor, white and greasy tongue coating, and wiry and large pulse.
2. Qi Stagnation and Blood Stasis
Symptoms:Severe localized stabbing pain and tenderness in the right hypochondrium, sallow complexion, dry mouth with bitter taste, dark purple tongue or with ecchymosis on the margin, wiry, thready and unsmooth pulse.
3. Heat Accumulation in the Gallbladder
Symptoms: Burning pain in the right hypochondrium, bitter taste in the mouth, dry throat, flushed face with red eyes, constipation, scanty and deepyellow urine, restlessness, insomnia, irritability, red tongue with yellow, thick and dry coating, and wiry and rapid pulse.
4. Damp Heat in the Liver and Gallbladder
Symptoms: Distension, fullness and pain in the right hypochondrium, chest oppression, impaired appetite, bitter taste in the mouth, restlessness, mucous stools, or jaundice, red tongue with yellow and greasy coating, and wiry and smooth pulse.
5. Yin Deficiency and Liver-qi Stagnation
Chief Manifestations: Dull pain or slight burning sensation in the right hypechondrium, dryness in the mouth and throat, irritability, feverish sensation in the chest, vertigo, low fever in the afternoon, red tongue with little coating, and thready and rapid pulse.
6. Yang Deficiency and Liver-qi Stagnation
Symptoms: Intermittent dull pain in the right hypochondrium, distension and fullness in the abdomen, vomiting of saliva, aversion to cold, cold limbs, lassitude, shortness of breath, pale tongue with white greasy coating, and wiry and weak pulse.
