Chronic, erosive gastritis is an inflammation of the stomach characterized by multiple lesions in the mucous lining causing ulcer-like symptoms. These symptoms may include a burning and heavy feeling in the pit of the stomach, mild nausea, vomiting, loss of appetite and weakness. In severe cases there can be bleeding of the stomach which may result in anemia. Some people with this disorder, especially chronic aspirin users, may show no apparent symptoms until the disease has advanced. Symptoms and signs of erosive gastritis in TCM include.
1. Pattern of Liver Fire Invading Stomach
Main symptoms: spitting blood, dark stool, belching, nausea, stomach and rib dull pains, irritability, red tongue, less coating, floating pulse.
2. Pattern of Spleen Qi Deficiency
Main symptoms: dull pain in the stomach, vomit, yellow complexion, fatigue, spitting blood, dark stool, white and greasy coating, deep and thin pulse.
3. Pattern of Excessive Heat Invading Stomach
Main symptoms: blood in the nose, haematemesis, fever, thirst, dry and dark stool, dark urine, red tongue, yellow coating, rapid pulse.
4. Pattern of Stagnation of Blood
Main symptoms: fixed stomach pain, sharp pain especially at night, haematemesis, hematochezia( blood in the stool), dark tongue with ecchymosis, floating pulse.
