Chinese medicine Treatment for Amenorrhea
Syndrome differentiation and treatment
Non-occurrence of menarche after the normal age or development from scanty menorrhea to amenorrhea accompanied by other asthenia symptoms is of asthenia syndrome; while sudden occurrence of amenorrhea accompanied by other sthenia symptoms is of sthenia syndrome.

The treatment of amenorrhea is either nourishing for asthenia syndrome, such as nourishing the liver and kidney or regulating and nourishing qi and blood; or purging for sthenia syndrome, such as activating blood to resolve stasis, or regulating qi to remove stagnation, or expelling pathogenic factors to regulate menstruation. Both drastic purgation and drastic nourishing therapies are forbidden. The treatment of amenorrhea due to other diseases may concentrate on dealing with the diseases first.

(1) Syndrome of deficiency of the liver and kidney
Main symptoms: Non-occurrence of menarche after the normal age, or delayed menarche, delayed menstruation, scanty menorrhea, gradual amenorrhea, dizziness,tinnitus, aching and flaccid sensation in the loins and knees, dry mouth, feverish sensation over the palms,soles and chest, tidal fever and sweating, dark complexion or flushed cheeks, light-red tongue with scanty fur, and thin and taut pulse.
Therapeutic methods: Nourishing the liver and kidney, nourishing blood and regulating menstruation.

(2) Syndrome of asthenia of qi and blood
Main symptoms: Gradual development of menorrhea from delayed menorrhea, scanty menorrhea and lightcolored menorrhea into amenorrhea, bright-white complexion or sallow complexion, lusterless hair or loss of hair, dizziness, blurred vision, palpitation, shortness of breath, no desire to speak, spiritual lassitude, anorexia, loose stool, light-colored lips and tongue as well as thin and weak pulse.
Therapeutic methods: Strengthening the spleen and nourishing qi, nourishing blood and regulating menstruation.

(3) Syndrome of qi stagnation and blood stasis
Main symptoms: Amenorrhea, mental depression,irritability, susceptibility to rage, distending fullness in the chest and hypochondria, pain or unpressable pain in the lower abdomen, purplish tongue''''or with ecchymosis and deep and unsmooth pulse.
Therapeutic methods: Promoting qi flow and activating blood, resolving stasis and promoting menstruation.

(4) Syndrome of phlegm-dampness obstruction
Main symptoms:  Amenorrhea, obesity, brightwhite complexion, fullness and oppression in the chest and hypochondria, spiritual lassitude, leukorrhagia, whitish greasy tongue fur and slippery pulse.
Therapeutic methods: Drying dampness and eliminating phlegm, activating blood and regulating menstruation.
