Key points for diagnosis
(l) The clinical manifestations of this disease are profuse leukorrhea with milk-like and sticky texture or with pus-like and light yellow color, or bloody leukorrhea, or bleeding after sexual intercourse, pudendal pruritus and pain; even lumbosacral pain, prolapsing pain in the lower abdomen, dysmenorrhea and dyspareunia; or frequent urination, stabbing pain in urination and difficulty in urination. Bacterial infection is usually accompanied by fever. In serious cases sterility can be caused.
(2) In acute cervicitis, gynecological examination may find cervical congestion, edema, even exfoliation and necrosis as well as discharge of excessive pyogenic mucus.Erosion of cervix is either granular or mastoid. The erosion is graded into mild, medium and serious degrees.Sometimes cervical polyp, Naboth's cysts and cervical hypertrophy can be found.
(3) Routine blood test in acute cervicitis finds increase of white cells. Smear of secreta from the vagina finds a large number of pus cells. Gram's stain finds bacteria. Pathogenic bacteria are visible in the culture of the secreta.
(4) This disease should be differentiated from cervical cancer. Cervical smear can be used to detect cancer cells. Or vaginoscopy is used to examine the cervix. Biopsy may be used to examine the skeptic part. Besides, cervicitis should be differentiated from trichomoniasis, mycotic, tuberculous, amebic and bilharzial cervicitis, old cervical laceration and severe eversion of the cervix. In TCM, a disease or a symptom might be caused by one pathogenic factor, even two or three pathogenic factors. When diagnosing a disease or a symptom, TCM doctors must follow the principle of "Syndrome Dfferentiation", and then "Suit the Remedy to the Case". In order to gain a more definite and valuable diagnosis, it's important and necessary for the doctor to learn the detailed health information of the patient, including his/her disease duration, age, sex, height, weight, family history, urine, stool, diet, sleep, sweat, energy, mood (emotion), as well as the tongue conditions and the palm conditions, etc. If you would want our expert to create a TCM diagnosis, you're welcome to contact us.
