Chinese Medicine Treatment for Uterine Fibroids

TCM Treatment for Uterine Fibroids
Practitioners of Chinese medicine attribute uterine fibroids to an over-accumulation of Blood in the uterus, brought on by the stagnation of Blood and qi. According to Chinese medicine, the excess Blood solidifies and turns into tumors.

To eliminate and prevent the stagnation of Blood and qi, Chinese medicine practitioners prescribe herbal formulation that includes Chinese angelica, bupleurum root, peony root, and other herbs. If you wish to try this Chinese medicine, consult us for proper administration of herbs.

Acupunture and acupressure therapists believes that acupressure can lessen the symptoms of uterine fibroids if applied properly. Acupressure is done by putting finger pressure to key body parts or energy points for about 3 minutes. These points are as follows:

Liver 3, situated on top of your foot in the webbing between your big toe and second toe.
Spleen 6, located four finger-widths above your inner anklebone on the back inner border of you shinbone.
Conception Vessel 3, located on the midline of your abdomen, five finger-widths below your navel and one thumb-width above your pubic bone.

Treatment in Western Medicine:
If you have fibroids but do not have any symptoms, you may not need treatment. Your doctor will check during your regular exams to see if they have grown. If you experience symptoms of fibroids, however, Western medical treatment varies from hormonal suppression to surgery. Various medications may be prescribed to offer pain relief, control heavy bleeding, and/or halt or shrink the growth of the fibroids. If you experience moderate to severe symptoms, surgery may be required, including: embolization of uterine arteries to block the blood supply to the fibroids and shrink them, myomectomy – surgery to remove fibroids without taking out the healthy tissue of the uterus, hysterectomy– a complete removal of the uterus, or endometrial ablation – the lining of the uterus is removed or destroyed to control very heavy bleeding (the last two procedures prohibit a woman from any future pregnancy). MRI guided ultrasound surgery, laser treatments, and anti-hormonal drugs are other, less standard methods for treating uterine fibroids.
