The Churg Strauss Syndromeis divided into three stages and each stage has a specific symptom as well as sign associated with it. Though the syndrome is progressive, it is not necessary that the all the three stages develop in order or all the three stages develop at all. In this disease the body immune system turns on itself. The white blood cells called eosinophils are increased to a great extent and attack the healthy tissues of the body. In the process, the Eosinophils cell group and release granules, which become inflammatory nodular lesions after they collect in various parts of the body.
This condition is called granulomatosis. The blood vessels become highly inflamed due to the damage. This is called vasculitis. Other than the lungs, the skin too can develop problems like nodules or a purporic rash. If the eosinophils block the small blood capillaries feeding the nerves, it might result in the death of nerves. Ultimately the disease thus causes paralysis and death.
The initial symptoms of the Churg Strauss Syndromewould resemble those of flu. As Churg Strauss Syndromeprogresses, the other symptoms of the Churg Strauss Syndromewould appear. These include fever, unexplained weight loss, rashes, joint aches, swelling, nausea, diarrhea, shortness of breath, fatigue, night sweats, cough, abdominal pain, gastrointestinal bleeding, systemic vasculitis, malaise, swollen lymph nodes etc. The appearance of the symptom depends on the organs affected and the stage of the disease which one is in.
