Causes of Acute Dacryocystitis in TCM
Clinically, the disease pertains to "Loujingchuang"(dacryocystitis) in traditional Chinese medicine. The etiology and pathogenesis of the disease is often described in TCM as: Accumulation of pathogenic heat in the heart meridian or habitual dacryocystitis, internal accumulation of excessive pathogenic heat with repeated affection of pathogenic wind, all these factors cause the hyperactivity of internal fire so that pathogenic wind and heat combat and stagnate in the inner canthus; or the addiction to pungent and fried foods leads to excessive pathogenic heat to stagnate in heart and spleen, which invades the dacryon and gives rise to stagnation of qi and blood, causing the disease. At the beginning, most cases are excessive in nature, but in the perpetual course it may change to deficient types.
