Syndrome differentiation and treatment
The onset of the disease often begins suddenly and violently and must be treated instantly. In clinic, the disease is classified into the syndromes of ocular invasion of pathogenic wind and heat, excess of toxic heat, and asthenia of healthy qi and retention of pathogenic qi. In principle, the treatment methods of the disease should be: In the cases of the pus being immature to dispel and resolve the pathogenic factors mainly with internal therapies, in the cases of the invasion of pathogenic wind and heat at the initial stage to subdue swelling and mass by expelling wind and heat, in the cases of excess of toxic heat to remove blood stasis and swelling through clearing away toxic heat, and in the cases of pathogenic qi superior to health qi causing the stagnation of pathogenic qi to increase healthy qi and remove pathogenic factors with the toxin eliminating manipulation. Sometimes external methods may be applied as the accessory treatment.
