The disease, from its clinical manifestations, should pertain to "Ningzhiyi" (purulent keratitis) in traditional
Chinese medicine. It is often caused by the ocular abrasions due to the wheat or rice awns or due to twigs or leaves or due to the removal of a foreign body on the cornea, for pathogenic factors, taking advantage of the injury, invade the eye and the disease arises. And those with a history of dacryocystitis may easily be its victims. When the pathogenic heat transformed from the invasion of pathogenic wind and heat or the pathogenic fire-heat accumulated from the long-time preference for pepper and frying foods causes excessive visceral heat and hyperactivity of pathogenic fire and heat, the eye is flamed and the disease occurs. Besides, the protracted course of keratomalicia, denditic keratitis and other disorders, when exacer bated by virulent factors, may also bring about the case.
