Syndrome differentiation and treatment
In clinic, the disease is mainly classified into the syndromes of excessive accumulation of wind and heat, flaming fire of the liver and gallbladder, excessive noxious heat, and deficiency of healthy qi and retention of pathogenic factors. The treatment, in principle, should be based on removing heat and virulent pathogens and, in long-standing cases with weak healthy qi, the method of dispelling pathogenic factors to strengthen healthy qi should be considered.
1. Syndrome of Excessive Accumulation of Wind and Heat
Main Symptoms and Signs: Photophobia, dacryorthea, ophthalmalgia, headache, visual diminution, ciliary hyperemia, corneal opacity with obscure edge and filthy surface; reddish tongue with thin yellowish coating and floating rapid pulse.
Therapeutic Metheds: Dispelling wind and removing heat.
2. Syndrome of Flaming Fire of Liver and Gallbladder
Main Symptoms and Signs: Swelling of eyelid, photophobia and ophthalmalgia with hot tears, cloudyreddish edema of bulbar conjunctiva, corneal ulcer with the middle part pitting deeply and spreading serpiginously towards the center, hypopyon, accompanied by a bitter taste in the mouth and yellowish urine; reddish tongue with yellowish coating and thready rapid pulse.
Therapeutic Method: Removing pathogenic heat of the liver.
3. Syndrome of Excessive Noxious Heat
Main Symptoms and Signs: Swollen eyelid, severe headache and ophthalmalgia, redness and opacity of bulbar conjunctiva, a large yellowish-green corneal ulcer in the shape of purulent keratitis, hypopyon; red tongue with yellow coating and rapid pulse.
Therapeutic Method: Removing heat, virulent and fire.
4. Syndrome of Deficiency of Healthy Qi and Retention of Pathogenic Factor
Main Symptoms and Signs: A long-standing course with symptoms of mild ophthalmalgia, photophobia and ciliary hyperemia, corneal ulcer and pitting without any healing; whitish tongue and weak pulse.
Therapeutic Method: Invigorating qi to dispel pathogenic factors.
