Bacterial corneal ulcer is a kind of acute suppurative inflammation of the cornea caused by the bacterial infection. Clinically, it usually manifests the symptoms of cloudy infiltration focus in the cornea that quickly amplifies to form ulcer. Although every one may suffer from it in all seasons of a year, the disease often attacks in summer and autumn and old people of debility are easy to be affected. It usually starts suddenly, develops rapidly and changes greatly. If it is not treated instantly and properly, there may arise corneal perforation and iridoptosis, and adhesive leukoma, after recovery, may be formed that greatly affects vision or even causes blindness. Sometimes, it may give rise to endophthalmitis or panophthalmia and even destroy the whole eyeball. The common pathogens of the disease are Diplococcus pneumoniae, Staphylococcus aureus, Staphylococcus opidermidis, Pseudomonas aerugmosa, Bacillus coli, Streptococci and so on.
