Causes of Obstruction of Retinal Artery in TCM
The clinical manifestations of the disease show that the case should pertain to "Baomang" (sudden blindness) in traditional Chinese medicine. Emotional depression causes qi stagnancy and blood stasis; liver damage from violent anger leads to disorder of qi activity and blood stagnation; overeating fat and sweet foods gives rise to dysfunction of the spleen and further to meridian obstruction by turbid phlegm; or yin deficiency and yang hyperactivity brings about endogenous wind of the liver which affects upwards the seven orifices in the head. All these can cause qi and blood to be stagnated and ocular vessels obstructed, thus initiating the disease.
