Optic atrophy is a kind of ophthalmopathy in which the retrograde degeneration of the optic nerve causes the blanching of the optic papilla accompanying the functional injury of vision. It is the final results of various diseases of the retina and optic nerve m serious conditions and can cause severe visual disturbance because of the extensive injury of the photoreceptor, ganliocyte and neuraxon and because of the loss of nerve fiber and gliosis.
