l. Clinical Manifestations
Usually, there is not any subjective symptom at the beginning but only some mild symptoms such as distending pain of eye, headache and dim eyesight. In the middle and late stages, it is difficult for the patient to get about because of contraction of visual field.

2. Intraocular Pressure
At first, the intraocular pressure is unstable and often increases intermittently.  If the pressure is examined within 24 hours, the climax tilter can be easily found out. The average reading of the pressure is a little higher than usual in most cases.

3. Fundus Examination
The enlargement of ophthalmic cup is one of the common signs, with the ratio frequently over 0.6 or the difference of two eyes over 0.2.

4. Visual Field
Characteristic changes of the visual field is one of the important bases to diagnose chronic simple glaucoma. The early field defect shows paracentral scotoma or paranasal stepladder-like scotoma and so on. There may be, in the middle stage, circular scotoma, paranasal visual field defect and concentric visual field contraction while, in the late stage, tubular visual field and temporal visual island occurs.
