1. Syndrome of Pathogenic Fire due to Qi Stagnation
Main Symptoms and Signs: Distending pain of head and eye, discomfort in emotion, fullness in chest and hypochondrium, vexation with a bitter taste in the mouth, poor appetite and mental tiredness; reddish tongue with yellowish coating and thready pulse.

2. Syndrome of Ocular Invasion of Phlegm-fire
Main Symptoms and Signs: Vertigo, ophthalmalgia, fullness of head, poor appetite, chest distress and much sputum, nausea, and a bitter taste in the mouth; reddish tongue with yellowish greasy coating and thready smooth pulse.

3. Syndrome of Wind Stirring due to Yin Deficiency
Main Symptoms and Signs: Vertigo, distending pain of eye, dim eyesight, sleeplessness, tinnitus, dysphoria and feverish sensation in the five centers (chest, palms and soles), dryness in the mouth and throat, and slight platycoria; a reddish tongue with a little coating and a thready rapid pulse.
