Syndrome differentiation and treatment
In treating epilepsy, the principal symptoms should be differentiated from subordinate ones and asthenia from sthenia. For the patients with frequent onset, treatment lies in eliminating phlegm and regulating qi as well as stopping endogenous wind, inducing resuscitation and relieving epilepsy; for the patients with long interval of onset, the treatment includes strengthening the spleen and resolving phlegm as well as nourishing the liver and relieving spasm; if epilepsy is persistent, the treatment should be in active cooperation with the aid of western medicine. For the patients with repeated onset, if treatment with pure traditional Chinese drugs is unsatisfactory, other therapeutic methods like acupuncture and moxibustion should be cooperatively applied.
