Syndrome differentiation and treatment
The treatment of taeniasis is mainly expelling tapeworms. Then, regulating the spleen and stomach is followed.
1. Tenia syndrome
Main symptoms and signs: There are white teniform segments of adults in stool. Occasionally, the segments form into strings to drop out of the anus and crawl on the skin. Some infantile patients have diarrhea or constipation, nausea, vomiting, abnormal appetite, etc.; a few infantile patients have dizziness, insomnia, itching skin, etc..
Therapeutic methods: The main method is expelling tapeworms. Then regulating the spleen and stomach is followed.
2. Cysticercus syndrome
Main symptoms and signs: Palpable circular or oval subtaneous tubercles with the size of a soybean which appear in batches, move slightly and have no tenderness. The tubercles often appear in the head and trunk; or the epileptic attack in the same patient may have grand mal, petit mal and psychomotor seizure. After the attack, the patient may suffer from acroparalysis and aphasia or may have the manifestation of staggering gait, nausea, vomiting, vertigo, etc. ; or paralysis, numbness and hemiplegia occur; or visual disturbance, even blindness appear.
Therapeutic methods: Expelling and destroying bladder worms in combination with the treatment according to the syndromes.
