Treatment Based on Syndrome Differentiation:
1. Qi-Stagnation and Phlegm-Accumulation Syndrome
Main Symptoms: It is often seen in the initial stage, manifested by solid tumefaction in good motion,neither red nor heat, no obvious pain, and no obvious general symptoms, slightly red tongue, thin and whitish or greasy coating, wiry and thready pulse.
Therapeutic Methods: Soothe the liver, regulate qi, dissipate phlegm and disperse accumulation.
2. Yin-Deficiency and Fire-Hyperactivity Syndrome
Main Symptoms: The node enlarges gradually and is coagulated into a mass or clustered with red color on skin and slightly warm sensation, accompanied by tidal fever in the afternoon, night sweating, dry mouth and throat, reddened tongue, scanty coating, thready and rapid pulse.
Therapeutic Methods: Nourish yin, clear away heat, suppress fire and diminish tumefaction.
3. Oi and Blood Deficiency Syndrome
Main Symptoms: It is manifested by thin pus like sputum, gray granulation in the wound, empty shell underneath the skin, accompanied by tired spirit, lusterless complexion, emaciated figure, poor appetite, pale tongue, thin and whitish coating, and thready pulse.
Therapeutic Methods: Replenish qi and blood, promote healing of the wound and granulation.
Cautions:
Scrofula is a chronic suppurative disease and mostly accompanied by tuberculosis focus in the lung, etc. Therefore, comprehensive consideration and full coordination should be given both in diagnosis and treatment. After scrofula ruptures, usually it is difficult to heal the wound. Furthermore, After the wound is healed, it is easy to form a depressed scar to influence appearance. Therefore, it is necessary to disperse scrofula as early as possible. Besides, this disease is a consumptive disease,so good nutrition and rest should be intensified in the treatment.
