Causes of Nasopharynx Cancer in TCM
The disease pertains to the categories of "Hangsang'ai" (Nasopharynx cancer) and "Shirong" (cervical carcinoma with cachexia) in TCM. The pathogenic factors of the disease are complicated and possibly due to emotional depression, external attack by pathogenic factors, food injury, and bad hobbies, etc. All these factors may cause organic dysfunctions of viscera. If the state lasts long, blood stasis due to qi stagnation or internal retention of turbid phlegm will arise to cause obstruction of meridians and collaterals, developing into the disease; or if obstruction lasts long, stagnation will transform into fire and heat to be accumulated and stagnated internally, giving rise to the disease. At the late stage of the carcinoma, due to yin impairment and qi consumption, qi and blood will be gradually deficient, causing emaciation. Finally, the patient will die of exhaustion.
