ORIGIN: The black seed of Sesamum indicum [Pedaliaceae].
CHEMICAL COMPOSITION: Containing about 60 % of fatty oil, 18.45mg % offolic acid, 0.48mg % of nicotinic acid, 0.64 % of sucrose, 0.65 % of lecithin, and pentosan, protein, calcium. Its fatty oil contains glyceride composed of oleic acid, linoleic acid, palmitic acid, arachicic acid, tetracosenic acid, docosanoic acid, as well as sterol, sesamin, sesamolin, sesamol and vitamin E.
NATURE, FLAVOR AND CHANNEL TROPISM: Sweet in flavor and neutral in nature, acting on the channels of the liver and kidney.
EFFICIENCIES AND INDICATIONS: Invigorating the liver and kidney, moisturizing the five Viscera. It is used as a cure of deficiency of the liver and the kidney, dizziness due to endopathic wind of deficiency type, Rheumatic Arthritis, Lumbar Herniated Disc, paralyses, dry stools and difficult defection, weakness during the convalescence, early greying of air, lack of lacatation in women.
DIRECTIONS: To be decocted, or made into gruel along with polished round-grained rice, or used as an ingredient of boluses, powder for internal use. It can also be decocted for bathing or pounded for external application. It should be avoided by those who suffer from loose stools due to insufficiency of the spleen.
