ORIGIN: The shelled seed of Sorghum vulgate (Gramineae).
CHEMICAL COMPOSITION: containing p-hydroxy-mandelonitril-glucoside, which produces p-hydroxybenzal-dehyde, HCN and glucose by hydrolysis.
NATURE, FLAVOR AND CHANNEL TROPISM: Sweet in flavor and warm in nature, acting on the channels of the spleen and stomach.
EFFICIENCIES AND INDICATIONS: Warming the middle-Jiao to strengthen the spleen, excreting dampness and arresting dysentery. It is used to treat fluid retention due to Enlarged Spleen, maldigestion, dysentery and difficulty in urination resulting from damp-heat.
