ORIGIN: The seed or flour of Triticum aestivum [Gramineae].
CHEMICAL COMPOSITION: Containing 53 to 70% of starch, about 11% of protein, 2 to 7% of sugar, 2 to 10% of dextrin, about 1.6% of fat, about 2'% of crude cellulose. Its fatty oil consists mainly of oleic acid, linoleic acid, palmitic acid and stearin. It also contains a little sitosterol, lecithin, allantoin, arginine, amylase, maltase and trace of vitamin B.
NATURE, FLAVOR AND CHANNEL TROPISM: Sweet in flavor and cool in nature, acting on the channels of the heart, spleen and kidney.
EFFICIENCIES AND INDICATIONS: Nourishing the heart, tonifying the kidney, removing pathogenic heat and relieving thirst. It is used to treat hysteria, dysphoria, Diabetes, diarrhea, dysentery, Carbuncle and swelling, bleeding due to injury, and scald.
DIRECTIONS: To be decocted, made into gruel or made into cooked wheaten food for oral regular administration; when used externally, it is to be roasted and ground into powder to treat carbuncle and swelling, injuries and scald. Noodles should be avoided by those who are ill with damp-heat syndrome.
