Sjogren’s Syndrome Dry Skin Survival Tips
Those with Sjogren’s should take warm baths or showers to help soothe dry skin.
Pat dry after bathing and moisturize immediately while the skin is still damp. Use a moisturizer that does not contain artificial ingredients to soak into the skin without setting up a barrier. Use olive oil, cooking oils, even Crisco. Do not use petroleum products, which set up a moisture barrier.
People with Sjogren’s with dry and/or sensitive skin should not use fabric softeners, strong bleaches or anything that will elicit an allergic response, in the washer and dryer.
If you do go swimming, rinse off immediately to reduce exposure to chlorine and use a moisturizer to reduce dry skin symptoms.
