Streptococcal pharyngitis or strep throat is a bacterial disease called "group A streptococcus". Streptococcal pharyngitis affects the throat and tonsils. Tonsils are two beads in the throat, behind the mouth. Streptococcal pharyngitis may also affect larynx. Common symptoms include fever, sore throat, and lymph nodes. Streptococcal pharyngitis is the cause of almost half of the sore throats in children.
