The pancreas also produces hormones which are involved in the processing of glucose in the body. The pancreas, which is located in the upper abdomen, may sometimes become inflamed due to various factors. This condition is known as pancreatitis. Mild pancreatitis may subside on its own without treatment. Severe pancreatitis may sometimes lead to serious complications.
