Wang Qingren (styled Xunchen, 1768-1831) was a native of Yahongqiao, Yutian, Hebei Province. He was a pioneer in the shift from functional to anatomical thought in Chinese medicine. He wrote eloquently of the need to reform medical thought on the basis of observation of the body. In his clinical work he stressed attention to the character of qi and blood (qixue), and favored a therapeutic method called "vivifying the blood circulation and resolving stasis.
