Herbal therapy
1) Internal medicine
Syndrome of excessive heat of lung meridian:
Therapeutic methods: Dispelling wind and clearing away heat, cooling blood to check bleeding.
Prescription and drugs: The prescription used is the modified application of Sangju Decoction (Decoction of Mulberry Leaf and Chrysanthemum) in combination with Xiebai Powder (Powder for Clearing away Heat from the Lung).
Syndrome of excessive fireofthestomach:
herapeutic methods: Purging the stomach fire,cooling blood to check bleeding.
Prescription and drugs: The prescription used is the modified Xijiao Dihuang Decoction (Radix Rehmanniae Praeparata (Shudihuang)
Syndrome of liver fire stirring the upper:
Therapeutic methods: Clearing away heat from the liver and purging fire, cooling blood to stop bleeding.
Prescription and drugs: The prescription used is the modified Radix Gentianae (Longdan) Xiegan Decoction (Decoction of Gentiana for Purging the Liver Fire).
Syndrome of yin deficiency of the liver and kidney:
Therapeutic methods: Nourishing the liver and kidney, descending fire to check bleeding.
Prescription and drugs: The prescription used is the modified Zhibai Dihuang Pill (Pill of Anemarrhena, Phellodendron and Rehmannia)
Syndrome of qi deficiency of the spleen:
Therapeutic methods: Strengthening the kidney and invigorating qi, keeping blood circulating within blood vessels to stop bleeding.
Prescription and drugs: The prescription used is the modified Guipi Decoction (Decoction for Invigorating the Spleen and Nourishing the Heart).
2) External medicine
(1) Grind 9 g of Baicaoshuang (Pulvis Fumi Carbonisatus), 3 g of Xueyutan (Crinis Carbonisatus) and 3 g of Sanqifen (powder of Radix Notoginseng) together into fine powder. Insufflate a bit of the powder into the nose each time.
(2) Grind equal amount of Rhizoma Bletillae (Baiji) and Mabo (Lasiosphaera seu Calvatia) respectively into fine powder together. Insufflate a bit of the powder into the nostrils each time.
(3) Hemostasis by finger pressing:This method is applicable to scanty bleeding of the anterior part of the nasal septum. Hold the bilateral wings of the nose firmly between fingers and breathe through the mouth. This lasts about 10 minutes in general. Simultaneously, apply cold compress on the forehead and neck.
(4) Packing hemostasis:Ribbon gauze packing of nasal cavity: This includes hemostasis with packs of the anterior nostrils and hemostasis with packs of the posterior nostrils. The sterilized ribbon gauze soaked in Goldthread Ointment is advisable for hemostasis with packs.
(2) Acupoints Massage
1) Acupoints selected: Tianzhu (BL 10), Fengchi (GB20), Baihui (GV20), Yingxiang (LI 20).
Manipulation: Apply pressing manipulation to each acupoint by finger pulp of thumb and fore finger with appropriate force for 5-6 minutes, repeat it three times.
2) Ask the patient to adopt a sitting position, raise the head and lie back, the performer presses from former hair line to Baihui (GV20) by the right thumb with strong force for 2-3 minutes, repeat it until the bleeding is stopped.
3) Ask the child to adopt a supine or sitting position, the parent presses bilateral Yingxiang (LI 20) by finger pulp of thumb for 1-3 minutes.
4) Pinch Renzhong (DU26) by the summit of the thumb for 1-3 minutes.
5) Pinch Shangxing (GV23) by fore finger for one minute.
6) Press bilateral Hegu (LI 4) for 1-3 minutes respectively by thumb.
(3) Guasha Therapy
Hold the Guasha board, keep 45 degrees with the skin, scrape Baihui (GV20), Fengmen (BL 12), Quchi (LI 11), Shousanli (LI 10), Hegu (LI 4) until a local red speckle occurs, then apply digital pressing manipulation to Shangxing (GV23), Cuanzhu (BL 2), Yingxiang (LI 20), Yintang (EX-HN3).
(4) Cupping Therapy
1)Acupoints selected: Shangxing (GV23), Erjian (LI 2), Neiting (ST44), Juliao (ST3)
Manipulation: Press Shangxing (GV23), Erjian (LI 2) and Neiting (ST44) first, then apply quick digital acupuncture by three-edged needle to each acupoint, squeeze 5-10 drops of blood from each acupoint, then press it by cotton ball to stop bleeding. Apply quick cupping manipulation to Juliao (ST3) for 20-30 times until a local red skin occurs.
2)Acupoints selected: Tianshu (ST25).
Manipulation: Apply simple cupping manipulation to Tianshu (ST25) for 10 minutes, once a day, 3 times as a course of treatment.
(5) Foot Massage
Basic reflection areas: adrenal gland.
Related reflection areas: nose, spleen.
Symptom reflection areas: trigeminus, lymph nodes of the upper and lower body.
Reflexotherapy is taken up of 10-15 times as a course of treatment, 30-40 times each time, 1-2 times each day, repeat it after 1-2 days. Soak both feet with light salt water to recover the sensitivity of feet to massage.
