Defense qi and nutrient qi start from the same origination. Flow rate of defense qi is fast and it goes everywhere. Circulation routes of defense qi starts from initial awake after night sleep at the period of the day from 5a.m .to 7a.m. Yang qi ascends from canthus along bladder meridian to head and descends to tip of little toe along neck and back then returns medial angle of eye and runs into small intestine meridian. Descending along small intestine meridian to tip of little finger it returns lateral angle of eye and runs into gallbladder meridian then descends along gallbladder meridian to between the fourth toe and the fifth toe. Defense qi returns lateral angle of eye and runs into triple energizer meridian then descends along triple energizer meridian to tip of ring finger. From there it returns anterior aspect of ear and runs into stomach meridian then descends along stomach meridian to dorsum of foot and scatters five toes.

From there it returns lower mandible and runs into large intestine meridian then descends along large intestine meridian to index finger and thumb. From there it returns back and passes both sides of nose then ascends to medial angle of eye and transfers into bladder meridian. This is one circuit and it is 25 circuits at day. It starts from close of eyes and asleep which is from 5p.m .to 7p.m. defense qi transforms from yang to yin and descends from medial angle of eye along bladder meridian to little toe then runs into kidney meridian. From there it passes sole center along meridian and runs upward then enters into kidney and runs into heart. From there it runs into lung and then runs into liver then into spleen. From spleen it returns kidney and this is one circuit. It runs 25 circuits one night and defense qi transfers from kidney meridian to bladder meridian at the period of the day from 5a.m to 7a.m. it circulates nonstop day and night.

Defense qi runs out of viscera and bowels at day and circulates whole body. Its function is that reinforces defense function of human body to the outside, prevents evil qi invading; moistens muscle, lubricates joint and strengthens kinergety; circulates viscera and bowels at night, nourishes viscera, strengthens biochemistry function of viscera and transforms yang qi to yin qi, supports spirit and saves up essence, if defense qi can not enter into yin at night, people are not easy to sleep.
