[Location] Localized in the supine position, on the neck, lateral to the Adam's apple, on the anterior border of m. sternocleidomastoideus, where the common carotid artery pulsates. (Fig.43)
[Regional Anatomy] Skin→subcutaneous tissue and platysma muscle →the superficial layer of the carotid proprial fascia and the front margin of the m. sternocleidomastoideus→the deep layer of the carotid proprial fascia and the back margin of the omohyoid→constrictor muscle of pharynx. Superficial layer, the transverse nerve of the neck and the cervical branches of the facial nerve. In the deep layer, there are the branches or tributaries of the superior thyroid artery and vein and the branches of the loop of the hypoglossal nerve.
