Acupuncture Point Lingxu (KI24)
Location:
Supine position; on the vertical line passing through the midpoint between mid-sternal line and midclavicular line, in the 3rd intercostal space.
Function:
Relieving the chest oppressed sensation in the chest, promoting the flow of qi, and lowering the adverse flow of qi.
Regional Anatomy:
Skin-subcutaneous tissue-greter pectoral muscle.
In the superficial layer, there are the anterior cutaneous branches of the 3rd intercostal nerve and the perforating branches of the internal thoracic artery and vein. In the deep layer, there are the branches of the medial and lateral pectoral nerves.
Indications:
Bronchitis, nasal obstrution, hyposmia, intercostal neuralgia, pleuritis, mastitis, vomiting, anorexia, and spasm of the straight muscle of abdomen.
Prescription:
Combined use with Chize (LU5)He-Sea Point) for treatment of bronchitis; and with Yintang (EX- HN 3) for treatment of rhinitis.
Methods:
Insert the needle horizontally, 0.5-0.8 cun deep; needling response: local numbness and distension; moxibustion: using 3-5 moxa-cones, or mild moxibustion for 10 min.
Note:
Don`t puncture deeply, or else the needle would cause the injury of lung, leading to pneumatothorax on right side and cause an injury to lung and heart on left side.
