Acupuncture Point Quanliao (SI18)
Location:
Sit upright with one's back propped; at the meeting point of the horizontal line passing through the inferior border of zygoma and the vertical line passing through the outer canthus of the eye, about on the same level of YingxiangLI20(Yingxiang (LI20)).
Function:
Dissipaing wind , improving eyesight, clearing away heat, and relieving swelling.
Regional Anatomy:
Skin-subcutaneous tissue-zygomatic muscle-masseterymuscle-temporal muscle.
In the superficial layer, there are the branches of the infraorbital nerve from the maxillary nerve, the zygomatic and buccal branches of the facial nerve, and the branches or tributaries of the transverse facial artery and vein. In the deep layer, there are the branches of the mandibular nerve from the trigeminal nerve.
Indications:
Facial paralysis, twitching of eyelids, pain in the face, toothache, swelling of the cheek , yellowish sclera.
Prescription:
Combined use with SibaiST2 (Sibai (ST2)) and TaiyangEXHN5 (EX-HN5) for treatment of facial spasm; with YangbaiGB14 (Yangbai (GB 14), TaiyangEXHN5 (EX-HN5) and DicangST4 (Dicang (ST4)) for treatment of facial paralysis; and with HeguLI4 (Hegu (LI 4) Yuan-Source Point) for treatment of periodontium.
Methods:
Insert the needle perpendicularly 0.5-0.8 cun deep; needling response: local sensation of distension and numbness; forbidden moxibustion.
