Acupuncture Point Tongtian (BL7)
Location:
1. Sit upright with one`s back propped; firstly, locate QuchaBL4(Qucha (BL4)), 4 cun sagittally posterior to QuchaBL4(BL4). 2. Firstly, locate BaihuiGV20(Baihui (GV20)), 1.5 cun lateral to and 1 cun antreior to BaihuiGV20(GV20).
Function:
Relieving stuffy nose, and purging away the wind-heat.
Regional Anatomy:
Skin-subcutaneous tissue-epicranial aponeurosis.
In the superficial layer, there are the supraorbital nerve and the supraorbital artery and vein. the interneural and intervascular anastomotic network of the greater occipital nerve, the occipital artery and vein, the auriculotemporal nerve and the superficial temporal artery and vein. In the deep layer, there are the subaponeurotic loose connective tissue and the pericranium.
Indications:
Rhinitis, epistaxis, Headache, facial spasm, chronic trachitis, and Trigeminal Neuralgia.
Prescription:
Combined use with YintangEXHN3 (EX-HN3), HeguLI4 (Hegu (LI4) Yuan-Source Point) for treatment of rhinitis and epistaxis; with FengchiGB20 (Fengchi (GB20)) for treatment of occipital neuralgia; and with SibaiST2 (Sibai (ST2)) for treatment of facial spasm.
Methods:
Insert the needle horizontally 0.5-1 cun deep; needling response: local sensation of numbness and distension; moxibustion: mild moxibustion for 10 min.
