Acupuncture Point Geshu (BL17)
Location:
Lie prostrate; at the level of the lower border of spinous process of the 7th thoracic vertebra, 1.5 cun apart from ZhiyangGV9(Zhiyang (GV9)) laterally, about on the level of the lower tip of scapula.

Function:
Adjusting the nutrient and blood, regulating the functions of gastrointestine, and removing obstruction from the channels and collaterals.

Regional Anatomy:
Skin-subcutaneous tissue-trapezius muscle-latissimus muscle of the back-erector spinal muscle.
In the superficial layer, there are the medial cutaneous branches of the posterior branches of the 7th and 8th thoracic nerves and the accompanying arteries, veins. In the deep layer, there are the muschlar brancues of the posterior branches of the 7th and 8th thoracic nerves and the branches or tributaries of the dorsal branches of the related posterior intercosral arteries and veins.

Indications:
Anemia, chronic hemorrhagic disease, phrenospasm, Neurogenic vomiting, carcinoma of esophagus, carcinoma of stomach, gastritis, esophagostenosis, enteritis, intestinal hemorrhage, Urticaria, lymphoid tuberculosis, night sweating, weakness of limbs, infantile dystrophia, endocarditis, Asthma, and bronchitis.

Prescription:
Combined use with DazhuiGV14 (Dazhui (GV14)), ZusanliST36 (Zusanli (ST 36) He-Sea Point) for the treatment of anemia; with QuchiLI11 (Quchi (LI 11) He-Sea Point), HuantiaoGB30 (Huantiao (GB30 )) for treatment of rheumatic arthritis; with XiaochangshuBL27 (Xiaochangshu (BL27)), SanyinjiaoSP6 (Sanyinjiao (SP6)), XingjianLR2 (Xingjian (LR2) Ying-Spring Point), YinlianLR11 (Yinlian (LR11)) for treatment of acute peritonitis; and with PishuBL20 (Pishu (BL20)), WeishuBL21 (Weishu (BL21)), NeiguanPC6 (Neiguan (PC6) Luo-Connecting Point the Eight Confluent Point), YangfuGB38 (Yangfu (GB38) Jing-River Point), ShangqiuSP5 (Shangqiu (SP 5) Jing-Well Point) for treatment of epigastralgia.

Methods:
Insert the needle horizontally 0.5-0.8 cun deep; needling response: local numbness and distension; moxibustion: using 3-5 moxa-cones, or mild moxibustion for 10 min.
Note:
Don`t puncture deeply, or else the needle would penetrate the transversospinal muscle-the external intercostal muscle-the internal intercostal muscle-the parietal pleura-the pleural cavity-the visceral pleura and the lung by its tip, and cause an injury to lung tissue, leading to pneumatothorax.
