Ye refers to the difficulty of swallowing food, and Ge refers to obstruction of food in the chest and diaphragm or vomiting after eating. Ye may happen separately, or may be a warning sign of Ge, so they are termed together "Yege." This problem may be caused by injury to the spleen by melancholy and mental agitation; stagnation of spleen qi, and failure of body fluid to be disseminated all over the body, bringing about production of phlegm; injury of the liver by depression, stagnation of liver qi, leading to poor blood circulation; stagnation of qi and blood; or by indulgence in pungent and hot food, leading to accumulation of heat, injury of yin leading to obstruction of qi, blood, phlegm and heat in the esophagus. The principle of treatment is -to remove the obstruction, disperse the accumulation, regulate the flow of qi, resolve the phlegm, nourish yin and moisten
the dryness. The points of Ren Meridian and Foot Yangming Meridian are selected as the main points, such as Tiantu (Ren 22), Tanzhong (Ren 17), Shangwan (Ren 13), Neiguan (PC6), Geshu (BL 17) and Zusanli (ST 36). For obstruction of phlegm and qi, add Fenglong (ST 40) and Pishu (BL20); for stagnation of liver qi, add Ganshu(BL 18) and Taichong (LR 3); for exhaustion of body fluid and stagnation of blood, add Xuehai (SP 10), Sanyinjiao (SP6), Taixi (KI 3) and Zhaohai (KI 6). Reinforcing technique is more often used in needling. This disease is similar to cardiac spasm, inflammation of the esophagus, esophagus cancer, and esophagus diverticulum, as well as neurosis of esophagus in western.
