3) Tea Tree Oil Home Remedy for Head Lice
Tea tree oil is a potent home remedy for head lice. My good friend used tea tree oil when her child came home with head lice. This natural remedy was so effective because tea tree oil contains something called terpenoids which has properties that are antifungal and antiseptic. One of the main properties in terpenoid also has natural insecticidal power which works killing the head lice because it attacks the lice’s nervous system. My friend coated her child’s scalp and hair in tea tree oil mixture. Tea tree oil has a rather strong odor so you might use a plastic bath cap after you apply the oil. Also some people have allergic reactions to tea tree oil so you might want to test the oil on your arm before you cover your scalp in it. Also if you are pregnant or using tea tree oil on a young child I would first check with a doctor because tea tree oil can be toxic in certain circumstances with children and pregnant women. My recipe for tea tree oil lice removal mixture is take 5 drops of tea tree oil and mix into 100 ml of vegetable oil. Let the oil sit for approximately two hours before shampooing clean. Make sure you cover every piece of hair and scalp to ensure that the lice will be killed. After the 2 hours shampoo your hair, you may have to shampoo twice and then use the lice comb to remove the dead lice. You can also purchase a tea tree oil shampoo to wash your hair with.
4) Prell Shampoo & Vinegar
Growing up around farm animals I was exposed to mites and lice. A natural remedy for removing head lice that I found to work super well was shampooing my hair with Prell shampoo and then rinsing my hair in apple cider vinegar. I allowed the apple cider vinegar to remain on my hair and scalp for a good half hour to an hour before washing it out. This really worked.
I found out I had a horrible lice infestation in my hair while I was pregnant. I had not had lice since I was a child and was very shocked and upset. I did not want to use any lice shampoo that contained chemicals so I found a home remedy for head lice that worked perfectly. I bought some vegetable oil at the grocery store and saturated my hair in the oil and then wrapped my hair in a plastic bag and I left the oil on 12 hours. You have to leave the oil on at least 12 hours if not 24 hours because lice can live without breathing for up to 8 full hours. I was able to get rid of the lice using oil but I also had to comb them out afterward and have a friend pick out the nits.
