Treatment Based on Syndrome Differentiation:
1. Syndrome of Dampness and Heat Accumulation
Main Symptoms: It is often seen in acute gonorrhea,manifested by red tumefaction in the meatus urinarius; urgent, frequent and painful urination; dribbling urine; turbid urine; pus discharge in the meatus urinarius ; edema of urethral mucosa in severe cases; redness, swelling and pain in the nearby lymph nodes; congestion and tenderness in the uterine neck in women, with purulent secretion and redness, swelling, hot and pain in the greater vestibular glands; accompanied by fever, reddened tongue;yellowish and greasy coating; slippery and rapid pulse.
Therapeutic Methods: Clear away heat, remove dampness, dissolve toxin and dissipate turbidity.
2. Syndrome of Deficient Anti-pathogenic Ability and Lingering Toxins
Main Symptoms: It is often seen in chronic gonorrhea, manifested by hesitant, scanty and dribbling urination; soreness and weakness of the lumbus and legs; feverish sensation in the chest, palms and soles; easy recurrence after alcoholic drinking and fatigue; poor appetite; leukorrhagia ; pale tongue or with teeth marks; thin and greasy coating; deep, thready and feeble pulse.
Therapeutic Methods: Nourish yin, suppress fire,remove dampness and expel turbidity.
3. Syndrome of Transmission of Pathogenic Toxins
Main Symptoms: It is often seen in gonorrhea with complications, manifested by swelling and pain in the prostate gland, aggravated by pressure; turbid or dribbling urine; sinking sensation with soreness in the lumbus; insidious pain and tenderness in the lower abdomen in women; pruritus vulvae; leukorrhagia. Accompanied by general discomfort of low fever ; reddened tongue; thin and yellowish coating; slippery and rapid pulse.

4. Syndrome of Invasion of Heat Toxin into Collaterals
Main Symptoms: It is seen in gonorrheal septicemia, manifested by burning and pricking pain in urination, scanty and brown urine, lower abdominal pain, headache, high fever, or alternating chills and fever, dull expression, puffy face and eyes, joint pain in the four limbs, palpitation, stuffy chest, crimson tongue, yellowish and dry coating, slippery and rapid pulse.
