Key points for diagnosis
(1) The main symptoms are constant pain in the lower abdomen and increased vaginal discharge.
(2) The accompanied symptoms at the acute stage are fever, aversion to cold and headache, increase of the total number of white blood cells and neutrophilic granulocyte.
(3) The accompanied symptoms at the chronic stage are abdominal pain, irregular menstruation, dysmenorrhea or sterility.
(4) Gynecological examination: Lower abdominal tenderness, tenderness in the uterus, thickening of the appendage or formation of mass, accompanied by obvious tenderness. At the acute stage there appear rebound tenderness in the lower abdomen and tenderness in the cervix.
