Sweating (Hidrosis) syndrome refers to the disorder of secretion of sweat caused by imbalance of yin and yang, and weakness of body surface. Frequent sweating in the daytime, not affected by environmental factors and aggravated on slight exertion, is known as spontaneous sweating; sweating that occurs during sleep but stops upon wakening is called night sweating or sleep sweating.
The etiology of sweating syndrome is related to debility due to prolonged illness and excessive pathogenic heat. In terms of and pathogenesis, hidrosis syndrome is caused by insufficiency of lung qi, disharmony of ying-qi and weiqi, insufficiency of heart blood, deficient yin and hyperactive fire, and accumulation of pathogenic heat. Hidrosis syndrome, in western medicine, may be seen in hyperthyroidism, vegetative nerve functional disturbance, rheumatic fever and tuberculosis.
