Causes of Intercostal Neuralgia in TCM

According to the theory of traditional Chinese medicine, there are some patterns of syndrome that lead to intercostal neuralgia.
1. Accumulation of cold in liver channel
2. Excessive heat in the liver meridian
3. Stagnation of liver qi
4. Deficiency of Liver Yin
5. Liver and gallbladder damp-heat

Integration of Chinese medicine and western medicine would be a good choice for this disease. When treating intercostal neuralgia, Chinese doctors will take everything into consideration, including the following conditons.
1. Degenerative disease of the nerves can result in pinching and damaging of the nerves, resulting in intercostal neuralgia.
2. Direct injury or trauma to the rib cage can result in damage to the underlying nerve, resulting in intercostal neuralgia.
3. Nutritional deficiencies, especially those of vitamin B12 can cause the nerves to become highly sensitive and result in neuralgia.
