Syndrome differentiation and treatment
The treatment should aim at principal symptoms, then subordinate ones, or concurrent consideration of the principal and subordinate symptoms. Based on different symptoms, methods are respectively applied of calming the liver to stop wind, strengthening the spleen and resolving phlegm, nourishing yin and blood, etc..
1. Internal disturbance of liver wind due to phlegm heat in the middle energizer
Main symptoms and signs: Shaking head, shrug, unsteady walking, stretching out and drawing back head, open and wry mouth, frown, nictitation, lots of eccentric behaviour, irregular extension and flexion as well as endless tremor of limbs, utterance of strange sounds, coprophasia, lustreless complexion, emaciation, red tongue with yellowish and greasy fur, taut-rapid-floating pulse.
Therapeutic methods: Calming the liver to stop wind, clearing away heat and resolving phlegm.
2. Loss of nourishment of the liver meridian due to phlegm accumulation because of asthenia of the spleen
Main symptoms and signs: Sounds in the throat, general muscular spasm such as nictitation, frown, raising head, stretching neck, shrug, throwing chest, bulging belly, raising hand and stamping foot, sallow complexion, emacitation, listlessness, chest distress, short breath, sigh, distension of hypochondrium, restless sleep at night, dream-disturbed sleep, poor appetite, red tongue, deep and slippery or deep and slow pulse.
Therapeutic methods: Strengthening the spleen and resolving phlegm, calming the liver to stop wind.
3. Internal wind of the liver due to yin deficiency of the kidney
Main symptoms and signs: Wink, swinging hand, standing on tiptoe, vibrating leg, stamping foot, muscular spasm of the waist, sounds from throat, coprophasia, emaciation, malar flush, dysphoric fever of chest, palms and soles, constipation, irritability, restless sleep, deep red and glossy tongue with the shape like strawberry, thready pulse without force.
Therapeutic methods: Nourishing yin and blood and calming the liver to stop wind.
