Symptoms of glomerulonephritis are usually progressive (worsen over time). They result from the kidneys’ inability to filter the blood and an increased leakiness of the glomeruli, which allows waste to build up in the bloodstream and blood and protein to pass into the urine. Sometimes, glomerulonephritis may be symptomless. In other cases, symptoms of glomerulonephritis can be severe and progress very quickly. Symptoms of Chronic glomerulonephritis in TCM include:
1. Deficiency of Lung and Kidney QI
Main symptoms: pale complexion, swelling, fatigue, easy to catch cold, backache, light tongue, white thin coating, thin and weak pulse.
2. Deficiency of Spleen and Kidney Yang
Main symptoms: swelling all over the body, hydrothorax, ascites, abdominal distension, pale complexion, aversion to cold, impotence, irregular period, backache, loose stool, light tongue, white and greasy coating, deep and weak pulse.
3. Deficiency of Liver and Kidney Yin
Main symptoms: vertigo, headache, hot flash, tinnitus, dry eyes and throat, soreness of limbs, nocturnal emission, irregular period, scanty urine, red tongue with less coating, thin pulse.
4. Yin Deficiency of Qi and Blood
Main symptoms: pale complexion, shortness of breath, fatigue, fever in the afternoon, dry mouth and throat, long-term sore throat, red tongue with less coating, thin pulse.
