Essentials for diagnosis
(1) The disease develops slowly with sustained symptoms which wax and wan from time to time. The function of the kidneys decreases gradually, and anemia, retinal degeneration, urinaemia occur at the late stage.
(2) It is manifested as various degrees of proteinuria, hematuria, edema and high blood pressure.
(3)Symptoms like those of acute nephritis may be induced by respiratory tract infection during the course of the disease. Some cases can have a spontaneous remission stage.
(4) General chronic nephritis is the most common type with various symptoms of chronic nephritis, which is not serious, without pronounced manifestations. The disease is usually protracted, sometimes lasts for years, possibly with impairment of renal function at the late stage.
(5) The nephrotoid type is characterized by proteinuria, hypoproteinemia, edema and hyperlipemia, often complicated with high blood pressure, hematuria and renal
insufficiency.
(6) High blood pressure type, apart from common symptoms of chronic nephritis, is also marked by prolonged and at least moderate high blood pressure, cardiovascular injuries and ocular fundus changes. Renal function deteriorates rapidly with unfavorable prognosis.
(7) If possible, renopuncture biopsy is recommended to confirm the diagnosis.
In TCM, a disease or a symptom might be caused by one pathogenic factor, even two or three pathogenic factors. When diagnosing a disease or a symptom, TCM doctors must follow the principle of "Syndrome Dfferentiation", and then "Suit the Remedy to the Case". In order to gain a more definite and valuable diagnosis, it's important and necessary for the doctor to learn the detailed health information of the patient, including his/her disease duration, age, sex, height, weight, family history, urine, stool, diet, sleep, sweat, energy, mood (emotion), as well as the tongue conditions and the palm conditions, etc. If you would want our expert to
