In traditional Chinese medicine this is called niupi (ox skin) xuan, because the skin lesion is tough and thick like the skin of an ox. It is also called sheling (around the neck) chuang, because it usually occurs in the neck and nape region. Neurodermatitis in modern medicine can be treated by the following methods.
Applications of hand therapy:
Massage therapy:
Location: Head, neck, spine, lymph and immunity, and lung areas, and heart and chest region.
Method of manipulation: The digit-pressing maneuver is applied to all of these areas and regions.
Acupuncture therapy:
At regular and extra acupoints:
Location: Quchi (LI 11), Hegu (LI 4), Houxi (SI 3)
Method of manipulation: The needles are inserted and retained for 30 minutes.
At special acupoints beside the second metacarpal bone:
Location: According to the location of the skin lesion. For example, the neck acupoint is used for lesion in the neck region.
Hand bath:
Recipe:Zaojiao (Fructus Gleditsiae) 30 g, Kushen (Radix Shrub) 15 g, Shechuangzi (Fructus Cnidii) 15 g, Tujinpi (Cortex Pseudolaricis) 15 g, Baibu (Radix Stemonae) 20 g, Dafengzi (Semen Hydnocapi) 15 g, and Lingxiaohuateng (Caulis Campsis) 30 g.
Function: To expel wind, resolve dampness, kill parasites and stop itching.
Method of manipulation: A hot decoction of these herbs is used to steam and wash both hands for 30 minutes, two to three times a day.
