Ingredients:
No. 1 Huashi (Talcum) 450 g;
No. 2 Yinchenhao (Herba Artemisiae Scopariae) 330 g;
No. 3 Huangqin (Radix Scutellariae) 300 g;
No. 4 Shichangpu (Rhizoma Acori Graminei) 180 g;
No. 5 Chuanbeimu (Bulbus Fritillariae) 150 g;
No. 6 Mutong (Caulis Akebiae) 150 g;
No. 7 Huoxiang (Herba Agastachis) 120 g;
No. 8 Shegan (Rhizoma Belamcandae) 120 g;
No. 9 Lianqiao (Fructus Forsythiae) 120 g;
No. 10 Bohe (Herba Menthae) 120 g;
No. 11 Baidoukou (Semen Amomi Cardamomi) 120 g.
Administration:
Grind the above drugs into fine powder, take orally 9 g of the powder each time, and twice daily with warm boiled water. Or prepare it with Shenqu (Massa Fermentata Medicinalis) as pasted pills and take with boiled water, or prepare the drugs directly into decoction with dosages in proportion to the original recipe.
Actions:
Eliminating dampness and turbidity, and clearing away heat and toxins.
Indications:
This recipe is indicated for seasonal damp heat diseases, marked by fever, lassitude, chest distress, abdominal fullness, thirst, sore throat, yellow skin and eyes, scanty dark urine, diarrhea and turbid urine, pale or thick greasy or dry yellowish fur. It is applicable to typhoid fever, infectious icterohepatitis, cholecystitis, leptospirosis, and others, which pertain to retention of both dampness and heat in the interior with equal predominance. It is especially used in summer. In case of evident jaundice, add Zhizi (Fructus Gardeniae) and Dahuang (Radix et Rhizoma Rhei) to eliminate damp heat. In case of severe swelling and pain of the throat, add Shandougen (Radix Sophorae Subprostratae) and Banlangen (Radix Isatidis) to eliminate toxin, relieve swelling and sore throat.
Elucidation:
The syndrome is caused by exogenous dampness and heat retaining in qifen and interacting on each other. It should be eliminated by promoting diuresis and clearing away heat and toxins. No. 1 can clear away heat, induce diuresis and remove summer-heat, No. 2 can clear away heat, induce diuresis and relieve jaundice, and No. 3 can eliminate heat and dampness and purge away fire, the three being monarch drugs. No. 4 and No. 7 are aromatic with the effect of inducing diuresis, removing turbid substances and regulating the middle-energizer. No. 11 bears the function of promoting the flow of qi, inducing diuresis, regulating the stomach and stopping vomiting. No. 6 is capable of eliminating damp heat and leading it downward. These four drugs play the role of minister drugs. No. 9, No. 8, No. 5 and No. 10 possess the effect of removing toxin, relieving sore throat, removing mass and subduing swelling, serving as adjuvant drugs.
