The syndrome is caused by dampness in the middle energizer, disorder of qi function, dysfunction of the spleen and stomach. It should be treated by drying dampness and reinforcing the spleen, promoting flow of qi and regulating the stomach. With large dosage, No. 1 is used as monarch drug to eliminate dampness and activating the spleen. No. 2 has the function of eliminating dampness and promoting the circulation of qi and functions as minister drug, which can not only enhance the effect of the monarch drug but also relieve abdominal fullness.
As adjuvant drug, No. 3 promotes the flow of qi and regulates the stomach. It assists No. 2 in promoting the flow of qi to relieve abdominal fullness and strengthens the effect of No. 1 in eliminating dampness and regulating the middle-energizer. No. 4 serves as guiding drug, mediating the properties of other drugs. Fresh ginger and Chinese dates are meant respectively to regulate the stomach and reinforce the spleen so that the effect of regulating the spleen and stomach is further enhanced.
